2023 Candy Corn Finds

Happy Halloween! It’s actually been a few years since I tried to find some of Brach’s candy corn flavors. So I did just that! This year’s flavors include the ones I typically see like Original, Mellowcreme Pumpkins, Autumn Mix, etc. But I wanted (what I assume to be) the special ones: Fall Festival and Mellowcreme Caramel Apples.

The first one I had was Fall Festival. I was excited to try it, but I was side-eying Kettle Corn. Overall, the bag was just okay.

As figured, my least favorite was Kettle Corn. On one hand, it tasted like oil/butter with a hint of salt. On the other hand, it was like soggy popcorn. I tried so many times to like it, but I couldn’t. The first taste brought back memories of a butter jelly bean I disliked. I did wonder if I would have liked this now if liked that jelly bean then.

Anyway, next are the flavors that I found just okay. Strawberry Funnel Cake tasted just like the name. I’d even say, oddly, fried. Caramel Apple was nice, but I liked the caramel and apple separate. 

Then there’s Cotton Candy, which was another memory jogger. At first, I didn’t like them as much as my co-blogger did. Initially I thought it was more like mild cough syrup, but I gave it a few more tries. Then I thought it tasted like mild dum-dums lollipops (of the same flavor) than actual cotton candy. After that it wasn’t so bad. 

Last are my favorites from this mix: Lemonade Shake-Up and Lemon-Lime Snowcone. Lemonade Shake-Up was lemony, mellow, and enjoyable. But honestly, I don’t have much to say about it. Lemon-Lime Snowcone had a really nice flavor, and was another one that kind of tasted like its name. I thought this was the best flavor in the entire bag.

 

Since I was a little disappointed, I went searching for Mellowcreme Caramel Apples. When I found it, I also picked up a bag of original while I was at it.

If you’ve seen my first Candy Corn post, you probably know that Green apple alone is a favorite of mine. With the addition of caramel it was pretty good too. In comparison with Green Apple, I’d say Red Apple has a more natural (an artificial one, of course) flavor. I found it pleasant. And I liked it more than the one in Fall Festival.

 

This year, obviously, I preferred the Caramel Apples and Original flavors. Although I found Fall Festival to be average, there were some interesting and nice flavors. On the plus side, I loved the packaging art.

More Candy Corn Flavors

The last time I found different Candy Corn flavors was two years ago. Finally, I found four more seasonal flavors: Mermaid, Dragon's Teeth, Pumpkin Pie, and Caramel. Spoiler alert: I liked all of them. Well, except for one. The first two were found in Ralphs (Kroger) and the latter in Walgeens. I still did not find Vampire Teeth; however, Mermaid and Dragon's Teeth have strawberry so I didn’t care.

There were only two flavors in Dragon's Teeth. The chocolate tasted like the one in the Autumn Mix. The strawberry tasted like fresh ice cream.

The Mermaid Candy Corn had a lot more flavors. So of course I was excited to try it. Here’s what I thought of the six flavors. Strawberry was really fruity. In Comparison, the Dragon's Teeth strawberry tasted way more natural than this one. Lemon was like a lemon drop, but fluffier. Green apple seemed stronger than I recall the Witches Teeth being, but I’m not complaining. Raspberry was like a slushy or Slurpee. Orange was nothing short of an orangesicle. And lastly, grape was my least favorite. It tasted like medicine. I decided to buy another pack to give it another chance. But it still tasted like cough syrup. However grape isn’t going to keep me from buying since I only got three in a pack each time, luckily.

I was kind of scared of Pumpkin Pie. I didn’t know how it would go, but I unexpectedly enjoyed it. It tasted like it had lots of cinnamon. It was so warming. It’s perfect for when you want the spiciness of pumpkin pie but don’t feel like making it. Caramel tasted like regular caramels, but with an after taste of sweetened condensed milk. And I mean that in a good way, it’s just the best way I thought of describing it.

Overall, as you may be able to tell, I thought all of the flavors were delicious, well, except for grape. Anyway, I’m excited to see what other flavors Brach’s will create.

It's Halloween, now lets talk about Candy Corn

It's Halloween! So I wanted to write a short post about Brach's Candy Corn; particularly my first impressions on two flavors I’ve never tried before. These flavors are Chocolate Mint Cookie and Green Apple. To be honest, I wanted to buy more flavors like the Strawberry flavored Vampire Teeth, but the stores in my area suck. The only other flavors available are Sea Salt Chocolate, Autumn Mix, and Assorted Mellowcreme which I’m omitting because I have tried them before and know I already like them. So I figures these would have to do.

Starting with the Walgreens exclusive Chocolate Mint Cookie flavor, I wanted to love this one, but it was wishy-washy. When I first ate a piece it tasted overly artificial. I can’t describe it, but it was absolutely disgusting. The weird part is that once I tasted it again the next day it tasted just fine… Actually it was delicious; a minty fresh taste with a hint of chocolate. But overall, it was okay. It’s probably not the first flavor I’d buy, but my siblings loved it, so I would recommend trying if it interests you.

Finally, the second flavor I was able to find was Green Apple Witches Teeth. Honestly, this flavor is my favorite. The best way I can describe the flavor is that it’s similar to any regular green apple hard candy. The main difference is that it’s a little less sweet (unless you eat too many), and it’s softer. Like I said I love this flavor.
